Flow —— The Developer-Friendly Blockchain for Open Worlds
Website Explorer Documentation
Flow is a fast, decentralized, and developer-friendly blockchain, designed as the foundation for a new generation of games, apps, and the digital assets that power them. It is based on a unique, multi-role architecture, and designed to scale without sharding, allowing for massive improvements in speed and throughput while preserving a developer-friendly, ACID-compliant environment.
Flow empowers developers to build thriving crypto- and crypto-enabled businesses. Applications on Flow can keep consumers in control of their own data; create new kinds of digital assets tradable on open markets accessible from anywhere in the world; and build open economies owned by the users that help make them valuable.
Flow has a rich ecosystem comprised of top entertainment brands, development studios, and venture-backed startups. Flow ecosystem partners include global IP brands like Warner Music, Ubisoft, NBA and UFC; leading game developers, including Animoca Brands, Sumo Digital and nWay; leaders in crypto, such as Circle and Binance; as well as several noteworthy projects among the next generation of high-growth startups, including Opensea.
The FLOW token is the native currency for the Flow network and the keystone for a new, inclusive, and borderless digital economy. If Flow is the digital infrastructure, FLOW token is the fuel that powers the network. It is the currency required for the network and all the applications on top of it to function. It is designed as a payment method as well as a long-term reserve asset for the entire Flow economy. The token is used by validators, developers, and users to participate in the FLOW network and earn rewards. It is also used for fees and to participate in future protocol governance.
Roham Gharegozlou is the CEO of Dapper Labs, the creators of CryptoKitties, Flow and NBA Top Shot. He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and dual bachelor's and master's degrees in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. Prior to Dapper Labs, Roham was the founder and CEO of Axiom Zen.
Dieter “dete” Shirley is the CTO and co founder of Dapper Labs, has developed a specialty in shaping the first waves of emerging technologies. He most recently cofounded CryptoKitties and authored the ERC-721 proposal that defined non-fungible tokens on Ethereum. Before CryptoKitties, Dieter was Chief Architect at Axiom Zen.
Mikhael Naayem, the Chief Business Officer, Prior to helping start Dapper Labs, Mik has served on Axiom Zen’s Board of Directors since the company’s founding. Flow based on a unique, multi-role architecture, and designed to scale without sharding:
Smart contracts and user accounts on Flow can always interact with each other in one atomic, consistent, isolated, and durable (ACID) transaction. In other words: all applications on Flow can run in the same shared execution state.
This ensures Flow apps benefit from great user experience and full composability, letting developers easily build on each other’s work.
Sharding and layer 2 solutions break composability and reduce network effects for dapps and smart contracts by removing ACID guarantees from the execution environment.
There are four pillars that make Flow unique among existing blockchains:
